NFL Players Compete in Cornhole Tournament

NFL Players Compete in Cornhole Tournament, Steven Sims and Tim Settle Jr. will compete in a professional cornhole tournament

The Houston Texans players will start team practice on Monday. But this weekend, two players are playing in a different kind of hole game.

It’s a game where you score points by throwing a bag into a hole. It’s played at cookouts and family gatherings in the summer.

Wide receiver Steven Sims and defensive lineman Tim Settle Jr. will be two of eight NFL players in the American Cornhole League celebrity tournament on Saturday in Las Vegas.

Last season, Settle won this tournament when he played for the Buffalo Bills.

“We often play cornhole in the locker room after practice or between meetings,” Sims said. “I used to play a lot with my teammates in Pittsburgh.”

Settle won last year, but Sims thinks he’s the best cornhole player on the team, maybe even in the NFL.

“Sometimes I get in a rhythm, and other guys will be in trouble,” Sims said.

Sims could win $100,000 for the charity of his choice. Each NFL player will team up with a professional and advance through rounds. Two players will make it to the final championship.

Settle will partner with pro Alex Rawls, while Sims will team up with Gavin Cano. Settle’s charity wasn’t announced, but Sims will play for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

“I’ve always supported breast cancer awareness,” said Sims.

The cornhole league started in 2016 and had its first celebrity tournament in 2019.

Sims hopes to practice before the event since he’s been focused on workouts. But he’s already beaten Settle sometimes.

“He told me cornhole is about finding a rhythm,” Sims said. “He says he has his rhythm down. I just need to find mine.”

Coverage of Saturday’s tournament starts at 10pm PT on ESPN2. Other NFL players like Alexander Mattison, L’Jarius Sneed, and Arden Key will also compete.
