New Picnic Shelter and Games, A old swimming pool from the 1930s in Walla Walla, Washington has been turned into something new. Instead of water, it now has a concrete floor with fun activities.
The park now has:
- A new picnic shelter
- A ping pong table
- A permanent cornhole game area
The idea came after the city’s parks director, Andy Coleman, got money from a community grant. They chose to change the old pool since it hadn’t been used since 2017, and another park already had a new pool.
The new games are built to stay in the park – the ping pong table is made of steel and bolted down, and each cornhole board weighs 700 pounds.
Two locals, Karen and Bryan, tried out the games right after the opening ceremony. While they admitted they need practice, they joked about getting ready for cornhole tournaments in Las Vegas.
Important details:
- The park is open daily from 5 AM to 11 PM
- It’s at 750 Sprague St, Walla Walla
- Bean bags for cornhole are always available
- Starting in spring, people can reserve the picnic shelter for a small fee
- When not reserved, the shelter is open to anyone on a first-come basis
