Hold a Cornhole Bag will very soon increase your accuracy and constancy. Here is how to grip as well as let go of the bag, thereby maximizing accuracy:
- Grip
Use a flat grip (palm grip). Place the bag flat on your palm curl your fingers around the edges, lightly holding the bag. This is the most common grip and ensures a flat, even throw.
Claw Grip: You hold the bag with your fingers curled over the edges. This grip gives you a little more control if you like to turn in your throw.
Corner Grip: You hold the bag by one of its corners. The corner grip will be handy with spin and it really works well if you are sliding the bag onto the board.
- Relaxed Grip
Don’t squeeze the bag too much. A loose grip is more fluid in release and more controlled for spin and trajectory.
- Place Your Hand in the Right Posture
Hold the bag so that it does not tilt and stays horizontal to the ground. This will provide a flat throw, making it less prone to wobbling or uneven landings.
When trying to spin, give your wrist just a little twist of rotation.
- Focus on Weight Distribution in the Bag
Throwing to balance weight out on your hand
Replace the grip if the resin has shifted in the bag so the weight is evenly centered .
- Alignment for Release
Hold the bag steady during your backswing at the target direction during your backswing.
Let the bag slide down your fingers on your forward swing for a clean release.
- Practice and Fit
Experiment with different grips to see what feels the most comfortable and effective for your style of throwing.
Watch experienced players or slow motion practice to hone in on your grip and throw.
Consistency with proper grip will see significant improvement in accuracy on the cornhole board.
